S'good to be the Queen

Hi friends!

It's Tuesday, and I have an event to attend tonight, so I'm posting here a little early. I'm sure more fabulous things to be grateful for will happen this afternoon and evening, but those will just have to wait for tomorrow!

Do you know about the galette des rois? In New Orleans they're called king cakes. They're delicious cakes that are traditionally served for Epiphany, but we eat them here pretty much all of January. Flaky and filled with almond paste (or fruit fillings), each cake contains a tiny little trinket called a fève. These can be little dolls or other tiny favors. I've seen the baby Jesus fève, a gorilla fève, a baker fève and other little things like a tiny bottle or toaster. Mine was a tiny little ceramic Eiffel Tower. There's a little game that goes along with the cutting of the galette des rois, and the person who is lucky enough to get the slice containing the fève is king or queen for the day. Today, c'est moi! That's right; I am the queen today. I've been buying little individual galettes for two years now, but today is the first time that I bought one from a patisserie that includes fèves even in the individual ones. So the game was fixed; I'm still the queen. Here's a picture of a galette and a fève exactly like the one I got:

And I don't know how on earth to make these two pix appear beside each other, so...here we are.
So, today I'm thankful for:

1)  being the queen. ;)
2)  delicious patisseries...I eat such delicious things here
3)  no car so I can walk them all off
4)  a social gathering tonight that I hope will be fun
5)  speaking of social events, public transportation...when it's just too far to walk...or you're wearing heels

Your turn!
bisous

  1. 1) That Sears is sending someone to fix the NEW freakin' lawn mower that I mentioned yesterday. Hubby and Johnnie think it's just a dead battery. MEthinks Sears should've tried to start the darn thing before Hubby and Johnnie got there to pick it up, especially since they'd called several days ahead to let Sears know they were coming and also Hubby called them just before he and Johnnie left to go pick it up. BUT - I'm at least thankful that we don't have to pay another $50 to have someone haul it from Spring Hope to Sears in Rocky Mount and back.
    2) That we found some DELICIOUS bread on sale today. Bought all they had - one loaf. :-)
    3) That my precious puppy is sleeping peacefully by my side.
    4) That my Whippet once again didn't bite said puppy's head off when he tried to get her breakfast (as usual) this morning.
    5) That I'm now the Queen Mum. That IS what the mother of the queen is called, isn't it? No? Well it is now.

  2. I don't know if this is right, but a while back I translated "Queen Misty" to french to come up with a screen name for myself. I am known as Brumeux Reine (and I love to tell people what it means in English). Of course none of them know French, so it's OK. ;)

To all who read this: "Hail to the Queen!" (Gina, I mean).

    1) The butterflies I still get when my husband gets home from work.
    2) My super-cool-awesome ringtone that keeps 80s music alive (current ringtone: Material Girl).
    3) My sweet Momma. :)
    4) My memory foam matress.
    5) Yesterday off (I went to breakfast with my good friend, Marcy, and got to catch up (for 4 hours!).
