Bonjour mes amis!

Thanks for visiting!

Funny thing about living here...the centuries of history between France and England, especially the numerous invasions of this lovely land by warring Englishmen, have left their mark, and there are certain French folks who still hold a little grudge. When I was studying at the Sorbonne, I heard a bit of it, and I pick up the occasional off-hand remark still. For example, in one of my classes this week, someone was saying he wanted to have an English accent when speaking English, and another classmate said, "but we're not Englishmen." Then the whole group of them sat and thought for a milli-second and quickly added, in unison, "GOOD!" and shared a haughty laugh. Tonight I caught the tail-end of a commercial for something edible, and at the very end of the tagline was this:  "It's English, but it's good." Yes, the French are proud of their food, and no, the English aren't known for their cuisine, but to say as much in a commercial...hilarious! Oh how the French tickle me. When they're not being totally nasty and rude on the sidewalk and in the metro. But that's for a less positive blog (which I will refrain from creating).

Anyway, onto gratitude. My five for today:

1)  finding a 5 euro note on the sidewalk. Free money!
2)  a post from someone I've never met but really hope to meet because I know she's an amazing woman just from what her husband has said about her. Ginger, I'm looking forward to it...one of these days!
3)  my warm apartment...it is SO cold!
4)  that the weekend is almost here
5)  funny people

Hope you're all having a great day! Look forward to hearing from you!
bisous

  1. Today I'm thankful that
    1) I haven't killed these beloved wonderful precious (need I go on?) dogs just because they scare the crap out of me by barking LOUDLY under my ear when they hear the very slightest little noise.
    2) it is an absolutely gorgeous day! Sunshine, not too cold, no rain in sight. Out here in God's country the quiet is more noticeable because there's so much of it!
    3) Day all to myself. I absolutely adore my hubby, and 24/7 is wonderful. BUT - every now and then some ME time is like finding a 5 euro note:-). He's gone to some kind of conference with the Master Gardeners today, and I've gotten nothing done. That's because I've been fighting with his MP3 player. I can't get songs recorded on it and I'm taking it back tomorrow. He can use mine if he can stand listening to classical and opera while he walks on the treadmill. :-)
    4) Archway macaroons. 'Nuf said.
    5) That I don't want to mention here how crappy your skin looks if you've lost a bunch of weight. Prune comes to mind. Is it worth the trade-off? Not sure.
